Historical Background of Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS)
Centre of Technical Excellence has a rich history that dates as far back as 1970s. It was established in 1973 and formerly known as Pusat Latihan Pembangunan Belia (PLPB), administered by Yayasan Sarawak. It was then transferred to be administered by Kementerian Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan, Sarawak.
From November 1986 until August 2011, CENTEXS has been transitioned under a few of government departments before it is officially became as one of the unit in Chief Minister Office, Sarawak.
CENTEXS transitioned from the training centre-based to the current technical trades training centre in preparation for the transformation of technical education in Sarawak.
PLPB was accredited centre for programmes with ‘Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia’ under Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) and it has produce many skilled and semi-skilled workers to the needs of the industrial sector in the State.
